The thing that struck me most about this flash was how each location had a different style, color palette, and texture. For instance, in the shots where the kids were playing Spiderman vs Darth Vader, the background looked as if it was a child's crayon drawing. Then the cityscapes were linear and scratchy, making them look gritty and corrupt. I really like this detailing and I think it made the flash more rich and interesting.
The choice of music worked very well. I liked that it was ambivalent to what was happening in the animation, as if the narrator was a mere observer that took no sides and made no judgments. I think that was what you were trying to get across with this was that everyone does the best they know how to, and I think the music really carried that message.
The only suggestion I would have would be that the movement wasn't smooth. It seemed that a lot of the characters had limited movement, and that made them seem more like paper dolls.
Otherwise, a great flash! Thanks!

Thank you very much! I love this review. You have a keen eye for detail. Some of the aspects you mentioned i kind of did unconsciously like the crayon backgrounds, but the way you explain it makes fully sense.
I know the movement itself isnt the best in this movie, but it was the best i could do at the time. Maybe you could check out my latest animation 'Jinas', where i spent more time in the actual movement and drawings. Id love to know what you think of that!
Take care, AITD

I agree with you that it could have used a little work, but I understand how much "fun" it is having people quit on you, so I promise I'll review it based on the circumstances.
I liked how the nymph's emotions were animated. I find that sometimes when you don't use spoken word, the emotions tend to get muddy in animation, but your nymph's feelings were easy to read. I would say that there should have been more instances of her being upset by the tree so that her reaction would have been a bit more founded. Like if the tree was in bloom and it was cross-pollinating with another tree; that'd be reason to burn it down. Ha ha!
I would have liked to see more movement from the tree: rustling leaves, waving branches, grooves in the bark to suggest a face. It would have suggested that there is some sort of give and take between the two of them, rather than her dishing out all of this adoration to something that is incapable of loving her back.
There is a lot of room for expansion with this piece, I think. From what you wrote I can see that it is not your passion project, but I would think if you put more of your concepts into it, this flash could really be something great. With a little more time to develop the character and maybe putting some animation into the tree itself, you could have something really fun.
And as far as people just remarking on the plot and ignoring the animation, don't let it bring you down. :) Ignore those, read the helpful ones, and keep animating!

ahhh.. thank you thank you thank you! you have no idea what it means to me to read a honestly constructive review :) I couldn't agree more with everything you said :) and I'll definitely take it all into consideration if I ever do decide to work more on the story/animation

Once again, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to make such a fun and challenging game. I loved how you managed to tie all of the epsiodes together and I suggest to everyone reading this that they take the time to play all of the games back-to-back because it really shows how intricately the plots are twisted together.
Like everyone else who has posted a review, I hope that this isn't the end of Jack French, but I am also eagerly awaiting your new series "Scarecrow". I will admittedly miss Jack French's sexy accent, but if you could find it in your heart to find a place for that voice in your new series, I suppose I could forgive you for ending Jack. ;)
Once again, I am deeply impressed by your work. The story is fun, the music fits well with the scenes and serves to intensify the drama, and the art is that gritty type that fuses so well with the story of a sexy European detective. Thank you for providing a few hours of mental challenge and much-needed escape.
Author's Response:
Hi Draculady :) That's a great nick !! It summons so many images in my mind :)
Thanks for the kind review. I am happy that you enjoyed the series. There is a poll on my website and 75% of the users want Jack back... hhmmm
I just hope that Scarecrow will fulfill your expectations. I hope to release Chapter 2 and 3 soon.
Cheers,
JB

I love the style of Reiko, it'd so dark and gritty... and you know whenever you see red anywhere it has something to do with blood. Really, these are some of the best drawn flashes I have seen in a long time, plus I find myself giggling and upon reflection realize that it is sick and laugh some more.
These are really great. Please make more!

This one particularly resonated with me. It seems that with some people you just can't challenge their beliefs without them blowing up at you... or blowing you away in this case.
The list of things "Athiests do in their Spare Time" was too funny. Did you just say the first handful of awful things that popped into your head?
I am eagerly awaiting another episode , especially if you ever do a Christmas one!
Author's Response:
Thanks mate, yeah the list was actually a last minute addition I just made up. It was originally going to be the Christian throwing paper planes at the atheist, but I didn't think it was as funny.
Check out the special if you're looking for another episode, I have two new specials coming out - one by JohnnyUtah, one by McBean. Soo look out.
